CWVS Director, Dr. Randy M. Madrid, has been elected national president of the Asosasyon ng mga Dalubhasa, may Hilig at Interes sa Kasaysayan (ADHIKA) for 2020-2022. The election of new officers, which was held at University Hotel, UP Diliman, Quezon City on January 24, 2020, was also attended by former ADHIKA presidents. The formal turnover ceremony was facilitated by outgoing officers led by ADHIKA outgoing president, Dr. Vicente Villan of UP Diliman.
The “handsomest” Oblation found a new home in front of the UPV main building and now faces Delgado St. on January 23, 2020. This is exactly 50 years later after it was first installed in the UPV Iloilo City campus.
UPV Visayas Security Service Force led by its Chief, Raymund Germarino met with the members of BSUTODA (Bolho, Sapa, UPV Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) on January 18, 2020 to discuss transport related issues. BSUTODA is the tricycle association that plies inside the sprawling main UPV campus in Miagao.
T. Wiweko, the Minister Counsellor of Republic of Indonesia visited CWVS on January 24, 2020 to establish cultural and research collaborations between the Philippines and Indonesia. He promised a research partnership between CWVS and Sri Wijaya University in Palembang, Sumatra through a joint conference on maritime history and inter-cultural relations, which will be held in Iloilo in August. The event will also coincide with the launching of the CWVS-South East Asian Research and Culture Hub (CWVS-SEARCH), which CWVS Director, Dr. Randy Madrid, aimed to achieve in partnership with universities from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.

UP Visayas received 15 thousand pieces of new t-shirts from GMall Davao intended for communities affected by Typhoon Ursula that recently struck the country.
University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) organized a relief assistance team to distribute more than 15,000 pieces of unused T-shirts on January 29-30, 2020 to the municipalities in Northern Panay which were affected by Typhoon Ursula in December 2019 and left at least 15 people dead and millions of damage to properties in Panay.

Faculty members and researchers from the University of the Philippines Visayas participated in the 5th Congress of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies (AAWS) held at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea on December 6-8, 2019. With the theme “Facing New Challenges for Feminisms in Asia: Reiterations, Renewals and Revisions,” the said interdisciplinary feminist conference gathered scholars, educators, activists and leaders from all over the world.
