UP Visayas received 15 thousand pieces of new t-shirts from GMall Davao intended for communities affected by Typhoon Ursula that recently struck the country.
Anna Razel L. Ramirez, director of the Information and Publications Office personally received the donation in Davao City with Ms. Lea Papilota of the UPV Office of the Chancellor on January 10, 2020.
GMall Davao responded to the call of UP Visayas for relief assistance in its social media platforms in December 2019. Part of UPV’s tripartite function on extension are public service to communities. This year, MagBUBONGa Project was launch in the university to assist disaster-affected communities in coordination with the UPV Graduate Students in Fisheries Association (GRASFA).
Ms. Carmila Uy, a UPV alumna linked the university to GMall who offered help through the “Damit ni Juan Project,” coordinated by its Marketing Head, Mr. Joseph Jeffrey Uy.
Cebu Pacific also heeded the request of UP Visayas for the transfer of the cargos from Davao to Iloilo and Tacloban City for free. They were delivered on January 11, 2020.
The Antonio O. Florendo Foundation (AOFF) facilitated the hauling and transport of the cargos from GMall Davao to the airport. AOFF is the foundation Arm of Anflo Management and Investment Corporation. UPV got a link to Anflocor’s VP Virgilio Estrada through alumna Dr. Junemie Ramos. Hamili and Hamilia, a brotherhood and sisterhood organization in UP Visayas also gave assistance in the preparation and processing of the cargos before its airlift.
UP Visayas has earlier sent help from donations of its staff, students, faculty and alumni to Batad, Iloilo; Pandan, Antique and Aklan.
