The Division of Biological Sciences

The UPV Division of Biological Sciences is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the natural world through research, education, and public service. As one of the premier institutions for biological sciences in the country, the Division is committed to excellence in every aspect of our mission, from conducting research to training the next generation of scientists and public health practitioners.

The Division of Biological Sciences is a constituent academic unit of the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Philippines Visayas. The Division offers 2 undergraduate programs - (1) BS in Biology and (2) BS in Public Health and 1 graduate program - MS in Biology.

Degree Programs

Bachelor of Science in Biology

Bachelor of Science in Biology is a four-year degree program (157-158 units) that imparts foundation knowledge on the following fields of Biology: Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Microbiology.

Bachelor of Science in Public Health

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) Program of UP Visayas is a four-year course adopted from the College of Public Health, UP Manila on May 8, 1998. Since AY 2018-2019, the program incorporate two professional clusters: the Biomedical and Community Health Clusters. The Biomedical cluster includes electives that will qualify the BSPH graduate to take the Accreditation Examinations for Medical Technologist and Microbiologist. The Community Health cluster reinforces the students’ immersion and training in building a resilient health system in geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas including islands, mountains, and coastal communities.

Master of Science in Biology is a graduate program (31 units) that provides advanced knowledge on the following topics in Biology: Physiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology, and Biostatistics. The program aims to produce researchers well-versed in scientific data collection, analysis, writing, and presentation in the field of life sciences.
