On the eve of her 100th birthday, a Centennial Memorial was unveiled and dedicated to the first Ilongga Supreme Court Justice, Carolina C. Griño-Aquino, at the Iloilo Hall of Justice Atrium on October 20, 2023.

The Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstract (ASFA) Partners gathered at Bangkok Holiday Inn Sukhumvit in Thailand, last October 3-6, 2023 for its first face-to-face ASFA Advisory Board Meeting after the COVID-19 pandemic. The ASFA Advisory Board Meeting is an annual meeting of ASFA Partners to discuss activities and plans for the development of ASFA.

A new set of Graduate Student Council officers were elected and sworn into office at the UPV GradStart held on October 14, 2023, at the UPV Iloilo City Campus. The members of the UPV Safety and Health Committee headed by its chairperson Prof. John Lorenz Belanio attended the training-workshop on “Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control” held on October 19, 2023 via Zoom. In this hybrid training, the committee members were gathered in the New Administration Building Conference Room for the workshop, while the resource person was in a remote location.

Two guests from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada visited UP Visayas, Miagao campus on October 16, 2023 for possible curricular and research collaborations. David Parks (Project and Advancement Coordinator, International) and Lana Bos (Manager, International) were met by Chancellor Clement Camposano, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Harold Monteclaro, and Chair of the Division of Social Sciences Dr. Johnrev Guilaran.

UPV, TMCI seal agreement for Infectious and Pathological Healthcare Waste Treatment Research Project
The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) sealed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with The Medical City Iloilo (TMCI) for the partnership on the implementation of the DOST-funded project, “Commercialization of the Oil-Based Thermal Disinfection Technology to Treat Infectious and Pathological Healthcare Waste,” also known as the Oil-Based Thermal Disinfection Technology (OBTDT) Project.
