The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration (OVCA) held a dialogue with representatives of various University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas offices based in the Miagao campus regarding policies with its partner tricycle drivers association.

Fifteen DOST-ASTHRDP scholars from the University of the Philippines Visayas participated in this year’s event. Ms. Maila V. Pan, PhD Fisheries graduate, and Mr. James Ariel M. Nim, MS Biology graduate, presented their research studies in the oral parallel session under Category 1 (Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) and Category 2 (Biological and Health Sciences), respectively. Meanwhile, the rest of the UPV scholar participants showcased their studies through poster presentations.

UP Visayas (UPV) alumna Justice Ma. Consejo Mapa Gengos-Ignalaga was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) last 27 September 2023 after taking her oath before Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo at the Supreme Court En Banc Session Hall. The newly appointed Associate Justice is filling the post previously occupied by Associate Justice Manuel M. Barrios, who retired last 29 November 2022.

UPV, TMCI seal agreement for Infectious and Pathological Healthcare Waste Treatment Research Project
The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) sealed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with The Medical City Iloilo (TMCI) for the partnership on the implementation of the DOST-funded project, “Commercialization of the Oil-Based Thermal Disinfection Technology to Treat Infectious and Pathological Healthcare Waste,” also known as the Oil-Based Thermal Disinfection Technology (OBTDT) Project.

In an exhilarating showcase of intellect and quick thinking, Assistant Professor Elfred John Abacan, a distinguished faculty member of the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas, secured an impressive 2nd place finish at the 3rd Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Quiz Bee National Finals, which took place in Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila on October 5, 2023.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) entered into an agreement with the city government of Victorias in Negros Occidental to undertake efforts for the conservation, protection, and restoration, promote environmental education and awareness, conduct research and monitoring, promote sustainable tourism and recreation, responsible and sustainable utilization of bioresources, foster community engagement, and advocate for the protection and conservation of Gawahon Eco-park.
