NSTP does coastal clean-up

Over 530 plus students enrolled in the NSTP course this 1st semester of AY 2023-2024 combed through the coastline of the UP Visayas Miagao campus and beyond for a coastal clean-up on October 21, 2023. Prior to event, the students were oriented to bring gloves, masks, caps, extra shirt, and wear sunblock. They were also instructed to use comfortable footwear and may opt to use picking stick.

The students were instructed to collect and segregate plastics (water and soft drink bottles) tin and aluminum cans, glass bottles (not broken), other bottles such as those used in soy sauces and other condiments, light plastics (cellophanes and plastic bags), hard plastics (ice cream containers, PVC, insulations), and unclassified items or residuals (papers, rubbers, electrical components, etc.).

With the Wet and Dry Laboratories of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences located at the beach front as starting point, the 13 sections of NSTP enrollees were divided into two groups. Sections 1-6 went towards Villa Marina Beach Resort and beyond, while Sections 7-13 went towards Brgy. Mambatad.

Along with Prof. Nathaniel Samson, Director of NSTP, there are 13 NSTP instructors handling the courses this semester.
