UPV Visayas Security Service Force led by its Chief, Raymund Germarino met with the members of BSUTODA (Bolho, Sapa, UPV Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) on January 18, 2020 to discuss transport related issues. BSUTODA is the tricycle association that plies inside the sprawling main UPV campus in Miagao.

UP Visayas received 15 thousand pieces of new t-shirts from GMall Davao intended for communities affected by Typhoon Ursula that recently struck the country.

Faculty members and researchers from the University of the Philippines Visayas participated in the 5^th Congress of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies (AAWS) held at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea on December 6-8, 2019. With the theme “Facing New Challenges for Feminisms in Asia: Reiterations, Renewals and Revisions,” the said interdisciplinary feminist conference gathered scholars, educators, activists and leaders from all over the world.

“Pahuway Sang Baybay,” an original musical composition of UP High School in Iloilo faculty members, Hermie Cartagena and Early Sol Gadong, kicked off the launch of the 2019 Visayan Sea Closed Fishing Season on 14 November 2019.

The Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS) of the College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of Antique, started its implementation of the public service initiative entitled, “Lokal nga Kasaysayan kag Kultura: Seminar-Workshops on Local History and Culture Documentation and Integration in Curriculum and Instruction for Araling Panlipunan Public School Teachers.”  The initiative aims to: 1) increase the understanding of public elementary teachers on the significance of the integration of local history and culture in learning; 2) generate materials on local history and culture for each DepEd district; and 3) produce an enhanced matrix on Contextualization, Localization, and Indigenization of local history and culture in basic education.

Alumni from the first batch of the BS Chemical Engineering (BSChE) program (2007) donated 35 hard hats to the UP Visayas School of Technology. The hard hats are intended to be used as part of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of BSChE students taking up Unit Operations Laboratory courses.
