One thousand two hundred thirteen first year students gained admission in the University of the Philippines Visayas for the 1st Semester of Academic Year 2019-2020. They were formally welcomed into the university’s fold during the Opening Exercises on August 5, 2019 at the Covered Court in the main campus in Miagao.
In line with its 54th anniversary celebration, the UP Ichthyophilic Society (UPIS), a socio-academic organization of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV) launched the ISegregate Project on August 14, 2019 at the UPV Miagao campus.

1908 ---------- The construction of a massive and splendid municipal hall was dreamt by Municipal President Rosauro Jocson and members of the Iloilo Municipal Board. Municipal Councilor Rosendo Mejica proposed appropriation of funds for the building construction amounting to P 21,183. The proposal was not materialized due to difficulty in looking for suitable site.
UP Visayas is now offering the MS Food Science starting this 1st semester, academic year 2019-2020. This new program is being hosted by the School of Technology.

Beniga, shared the results of their studies to the local community of Miagao on July 29, 2019 at the town’s OMA Training Center. The municipality of Miagao is a coastal municipality located 40 kilometers south of Iloilo City.
