Two graduate students of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) UP Visayas (UPV) are currently participating in the 2019 Summer Session of Kagoshima University (KU) in Kagoshima, Japan from August 17-September 25, 2019.
Ms. Mitsu Legada and Mr. Jover Nuevaespaña, Master of Science Fisheries (Aquaculture) are accepted under the Postgraduate (Masters) Programme on Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage (ILP) of the Graduate School of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, KU. As ILP students, Legada and Nuevaespaña will be earning at least six credit units at the end of the program.
The ILP is a collaboration between seven (7) member schools in the Southeast Asian region and Japan that implement the internationalized post-graduate program on tropical fisheries. UPV, through the CFOS, is the sole member school from the Philippines in the international education linkage program that started in 2015. The ILP member schools also include Sam Ratulangi University, Republic of Indonesia; Kasetsart University, Kingdom of Thailand; Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia; Kagoshima University, Japan; and Nha Trang University, Vietnam. Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia is the latest addition to this collaboration.
The internationalized program gives the students of the participating universities opportunity to enroll, attend classes and be mentored by professors of any member schools as well as to spend part of the program in a particular member institution.
Legada and Nuevaespaña are joined by 12 other students from the member schools. They will attend lecture and/or laboratory classes, practical training on the latest analytical method at the laboratory for each research area under the supervision of host scientist and training onboard the school’s training vessel.
Meanwhile, two graduate students of KU will be attending classes at the CFOS this October.
