CFOS gears for AUN accreditation

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas is working towards the accreditation of its academic program by the ASEAN University Network (AUN).

Organized by the Committee for Instruction headed by CFOS QA Officer Prof. Mae Grace G. Nillos, the College conducted another orientation and planning workshop on academic quality assurance (QA) held at the FC Conference Room, CFOS, UPV Miagao campus on August 15, 2019.

“The purpose of this activity is to imbibe QA (quality assurance) in the delivery of our academic programs,” said Nillos.

Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro, ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) assessor and director of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS) of CFOS, re-oriented the members of the CFOS QA Committee of the quality assurance in higher education to remind them of their tasks in preparation for the eventual accreditation of the BS Fisheries program by the AUN.

CFOS dean Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap created the committee to plan and work in the preparation of its academic programs for internal and external assessment.

Monteclaro said that UP, as a member of the AUN, will use the program utilized by the AUN in assessing its programs. AUN is an Asian university association founded by the ASEAN member countries and universities.

“The aim of QA is to benchmark our graduates along with other graduates of the ASEAN universities,” Monteclaro stated.” This is also to make the organization better.”

The CFOS QA Committee composed of the faculty members, REPS, academic and non-academic staff and students of the College has conducted initial planning, data gathering, review and timeline preparations for quality self-assessment of its academic program based on the criteria set by the AUN.

Should the BS Fisheries be duly accredited by the AUN, students of UPV-CFOS will have the same competitive advantage as that of graduates in similar course of other ASEAN universities. CFOS faculty members can be tapped by the AUN for accreditation of the fisheries program of other universities outside the country.
