The culmination of the week-long screenings and film talks for CineMapadayon proved to be a resounding success for the regional filmmakers of Western Visayas. Much of the success is attributed to the concerted efforts of the University of the Philippines Visayas as host organizer and the full support of the Iloilo City Government in realizing the objectives of CineMapadayon – a UPV film festival of Western Visayas Films.
Newly elected University of the Philippines Alumni Association Iloilo Chapter (UPAAIC) President, Atty. Rene John V. Nuñez called on all the alumni to work closely together, strengthen alumni relationships, and set aside differences in academic groups or organizations to better serve the University and its constituents during the Oathtaking Ceremony of the 2022-2023 UPAAIC Board of Directors.
The Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS), the Indigenous People’s Resource Center (IPRC), and the Visayan Studies 101 class held a webinar entitled “Dunang Kinaaram: A Webinar on Indigenous Knowledge, Cultural Identity, and Resource Conservation” last October 19, 2022, from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning. The webinar was done via zoom and was streamed live on the UP Visayas official Facebook page. The event was initiated in line with the university’s celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month.
Seventeen local government units (LGUs) from Western Visayas graduated from the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) Cycle 3 of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-6) in partnership with the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV).
Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, UP Visayas Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, along with Professors Josephine Firmase, Melanie Sartorio, and Johnrev Guilaran served as facilitators for Civil Society Organization representatives in the Local Development Councils of Oton, New Lucena, and Pavia from 10-11 Oct. 2022, at Goldberry Hotel, Iloilo City.
