UPV professors serve as facilitators for DILG 6’s Capacity Building for CSO reps in LDCs

UPV professors serve as facilitators for DILG 6’s Capacity Building for CSO reps in LDCs

Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, UP Visayas Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, along with Professors Josephine Firmase, Melanie Sartorio, and Johnrev Guilaran served as facilitators for Civil Society Organization representatives in the Local Development Councils of Oton, New Lucena, and Pavia from 10-11 Oct. 2022, at Goldberry Hotel, Iloilo City.

The CSO reps were oriented on how the local development council serves as the fulcrum of development programs in their respective LGUs. Their representation as CSO reps is crucial in the annual planning and budgeting to fund the different LGU programs.

Also included in the training is the role of devolution and the local autonomy law of 1991 (RA 7160) in national development. The last part of the module dealt with soft skills in conducting dialogue and good communication.

The DILG 6 and UPV teams worked hand in hand in this capacity-building initiative, especially in the context of the Mandanas-Garcia ruling, which could lead to increased revenues for all the LGUs in the Philippines.

UPV continues to fulfill its mandate on public service and developing partnerships for the sustainable development of Western Visayas.
