Crispin “Ningnong” Acedera recently turned over his painting titled “Mga Pangalap sa Biernes Santo” (mixed media, 17.3 x 19.2 cm) to the Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts. The painting was included in an exhibition of abstract paintings, Abstracted Visions: The Contemporary Abstract Show, organized by art Show Philippines in July of this year. Prof Martin Genodepa, OICA Director, received the artwork on behalf of the university.

The University of the Philippines Visayas hosted an online media briefing for the opening of nominations of its first ever BANTALA: UPV Media Excellence Awards on 27 October 2021. Project Development Assistant for Communication and Mass Media of the Office of the Chancellor, Dr. Zoilo S. Andrada, Jr., and the BANTALA Core Group Committee attended the media briefing and presented the attendees with key information about the Call for Nominations. The media briefing was attended by a breadth of journalists, and media practitioners all over Western Visayas, including those from Philippine Daily Inquirer, Daily Guardian, Panay News, Iloilo Metropolitan Times, Bombo Radyo, and RMN.

The University of the Philippines Visayas Project Development Assistant for Mass Media and Communication of the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Division of Humanities partner with Rappler and MovePH for the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) webinar series entitled “Digital Media, Technology, and Society.” This four-part webinar series aims to engage teachers, students, and leaders to be critical and discerning online and intends to engage audience so they can better navigate and deal with the disruptive impact of technological innovation in addressing urgent issues and crises in media and democracy.

Three projects assisted by CAS COP-BIDANI were presented at the 4th Colleges, and Universities Public Service Conference (CUPSCon 4) held last October 21-22, 2021, via Zoom. The projects are ACTI(on) Research Project (Assistance, Collaboration, Training, and Other Interventions on [ACTIon] Research Project), the Municipal Health System Strengthening Program, and the TEACH DRR Project (Bridge Phase).

More than 400 first-year students experienced remote education in UP Visayas ahead of their peers as they took the Bridge Program in Mathematics and English held from August 26 to September 9, 2021. The program was conducted through the UPV Learning Management System (LMS).

In relation to its continued webinars and upskilling programs for faculty members on the use of the Learning Management System, last August 19, 2021, TLRC conducted “sana oL May high Score” training that delved into the utilization of the LMS gradebook in order for teachers to provide an efficient and systematic feedback system for assignments and other requirements of students.
