Transitioning from the traditional classroom into a remote learning environment is difficult, especially for the major people involved in the teaching and learning process, which are students and teachers.

To address this challenge, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Teaching and Learning Resource center, the Learning Management System Team, and the Graduate Program Office collaborated to conduct a series of orientation sessions on the use of LMS done on separate dates: September 10 for faculty and undergraduate students and October 16 for students of UPV’s graduate programs via Zoom and Facebook live.

The number of registrants or participants for the event is 97 faculty members, 595 undergraduate students, and 187 graduate students.

Resource speakers from the LMS team, Prof. Nilo Araneta, and Mr. Karch Malaga oriented faculty members on the basics of using UPV’s learning management system for class use, such as uploading course packs, administering discussion fora, quizzes and assignments, and using other features of the LMS for instruction.

The same resource speakers also handled the orientation training of undergraduate and graduate students on separate dates, utilizing a webinar format to ready the students on important stuff to be done such as uploading assignments, posting to discussion fora, submitting assignments, taking quizzes, and the like.

The TLRC is continuously collaborating with the different academic units of the university to provide solutions to challenges posed by remote learning.
