Two faculty members were added to the roster of UP Scientists from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS). At the same time, one retained a past appointment for their exceptional works in advancing science and technology. 

The University of the Philippines Visayas and the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office VI partnered for the media briefing roadshow of the first-ever BANTALA: UPV Media Excellence Awards among journalists and media practitioners in the region.

Mr. Reilly Bautista, an instructor at the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, College of Arts and Sciences, was recognized as having the best poster presentation at the 23^rd National Physics Conference of Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM).  His work titled “First-principles calculation of carbon dioxide adsorption on nickel-decorated graphene” was created for the competition's Biophysics/Complex system/High Energy Physics/Computational Physics category. He is co-author of “Effect of Cu-doping at the Mo-site on electronic properties of monolayer MoS₂: A density functional theory study,” which is a paper that was presented orally for the same category. 

The COP-BIDANI and Center for West Visayan Studies of the College of Arts and Sciences co-organized the 2nd Virtual CDSP Huntahan with the Community Development Society of the Philippines on November 19, 2021.

The University of the Philippines Visayas represented by Chancellor Dr. Clement Camposano and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences represented by Rector Prof. Dr. Csaba Gyuricza signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation at the Department of Science and Technology, Taguig, Metro Manila on November 17, 2021.

Happiness is relative; one’s happiness may be different from what makes other people happy. Tagged with everyone’s happiness is a goal to reach, and as happiness is relative, so is one’s goal. Achieving our goals take time, and we want to guarantee a financially stable future because we do not know what it holds for us. In a television commercial for a bank, Lea Salonga once stated, “Money isn’t everything, but it matters.”

The University of the Philippines Visayas has a total of seven new and re-appointed UP scientists. 

Leo Gali (b.1974), from Panitan town, recently turned over his painting titled “Feminine Colors” (2021, oil on canvas, 60.96 x 60.96 cm) to the Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts. 

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) funded program “Tourism Studies on Island-Based Opportunities for Growth in Western Visayas - (TSIBOG)” commenced last July 2021 with seven research projects under its wing. One of these is the project “Bridging the Past, Sailing toward the Future: History to the (and by the People).”  The project partnered with the Local Government Unit of Ibajay, Aklan and the Department of Education - Division of Aklan to train elementary and secondary teachers, tourism and planning officers, and people’s organizations in doing historical research and promoting cultural heritage tourism in the Municipality of Ibajay.
