UPV WellCom members train for DOH Wellness Training

Two members of the UPV Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Committee participated in the “Training on Healthy Lifestyle: An Approach to the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable (NCD) Diseases” conducted by the Department of Health, Region VI on November 7-9, 2017 in Iloilo City.

The training began with an overview of leading NCDs in the country which included cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and diabetes mellitus. They account for 60% of the total deaths globally and are projected to increase in the years to come according the World Health Organization data.

Babaran takes oath as 10th Chancellor of UP Visayas

Dr. Ricardo P. Babaran formally took his oath as 10th Chancellor of UP Visayas with UP President Danilo Concepcion on November 6, 2017 at the Quezon Hall, UP Diliman. Witnessing the oathtaking were Executive Vice President Teodoro Herbosa, Vice President for Administration Nestor G. Yunque and Ms. Agnes Aquino of the UP Visayas Diliman Liaison Office.

UPVTC gets 100% passing rate, produces 7 topnotchers in 2017 psychometrician board exam

The University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College (UPVTC) soared to even greater heights this year as it garnered a 100% passing rate and produced seven topnotchers in the Psychometrician Licensure Examination. The examination was administered by the Board of Psychology of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in various parts of the country on October 29-30, 2017.

The seven who were included in the top ten are the following: Victor L. Macasil, Jr. and Patricia Angela M. Pelito (6th place, with a rating of 83.40%); Rosemarie T. Sarte (8th place, 83.00%); Kimberly F. Leala and Mar Augustine Chloey B. Lee (9th place, 82.80%); and Eva Mae A. Adena and Melanie S. Patiño (10th place, 82.60%).

UPV’s Topor and Garibay awarded research disclosure incentives

Dr. Vivian A. Topor, faculty member of the Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences and Ms. Soledad S. Garibay, University Researcher of the Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences were the recipients of the 3rd Invention Disclosure Incentive Award given by the Technology Transfer and Business Development (TTBDO) of the UP System on October 13, 2017 held at the Auditorium of the Institute of Biology, U.P. Diliman.
