Fifty University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) employees signified interest and were trained on food processing focused on fish deboning last November 11, 2024 at the Fish Processing Laboratory, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS). It was organized by the Committee on Personnel Development and General Welfare, under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and in partnership with the Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT), CFOS.

The University of the Philippines Visayas Regional Research Center (UPV RRC) Engineering Section conducted a seminar-worksop titled “Powering Up: Mastering Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Systems for Critical Facilities” last November 6, 2024 at the UPV RRC Audio Visual Room, UP Visayas Miagao Campus. The seminar-workshop aimed to better understand the basics, importance, and how to design Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Systems in critical facilities.

A paper published by faculty members and researchers from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS) received the Dr. Elvira O. Tan Awards of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) conducted a two-day user training workshop on the automated academic processes for UP Visayas, funded by the Academic Program Improvement (API). The event occurred from November 5 and 6, 2024, at the MILC Audio-Visual Room at the UP Visayas, Miagao campus. Participants included college secretaries, OCS staff, division/department chairs, institute directors, division/department/institute staff, deans, the University Registrar, and selected OUR personnel.

Representing UP Visayas, the team consisting of Vince Justin Dela Cruz and Arielle Estrella, both BS Fisheries students from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, finished second in the recently concluded Biotechnology Quiz Bee Competition held at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Iloilo City on November 7, 2024.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Antique on October 30, 2024, at the UP Visayas New Admin Building Conference Room, via Zoom. At the same time, the UPV Regional Research Center (RRC) and the UA Integrated Research Centers (IRC) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for research and development, and capacity building activities under the Material Science and Nanotechnology (MSN) Laboratory. This upcoming activity aims to capacitate researchers on the basic operations and maintenance of the various equipment under the MSN Laboratory despite the lack of enough human resources. This activity is spearheaded by the UPV RRC MSN Laboratory and will be inviting Ms. Jessebel V. Gadot, then University Researcher I of the UPV RRC MSN Laboratory, and the current Faculty and Director of UA-IRC.
