The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) held a consultation with its non-teaching personnel on the review of the BS Fisheries (BSF) program and other concerns in the college on November 6, 2024 at CFOS, UP Visayas Miagao campus.
Dean Prof. Dr. Harold M. Monteclaro spearheaded the activity, which was attended by CFOS REPS and administrative personnel to review the BSF program and discuss CFOS research and public service agenda, CFOS anniversary, and other concerns.
The consultation was intended to facilitate the exchange of ideas to enhance CFOS’ operations, curricular program offerings, and how to work better as a community.
Monteclaro met with the REPS in the morning and the administrative staff in the afternoon.
Members of the working committee for the revision of the BSF program, namely Assoc. Prof. Caridad N. Jimenez and Asst. Prof. Dr. Iris Ann G. Borlongan were also present. Ella Alleno, CFOS student council president, represented the students in this gathering. Vice Chancellor for Administration Asst. Prof. Dr. Farisal Ungkakay-Bagsit, Institute of Aquaculture Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols, and College Secretary Asst. Prof. Lhumen A. Tejano likewise graced the afternoon activity.
The discussions focused on issues and concerns related to the BSF program, research and public service, graduate programs, procedures for issuing student clearance, laboratory supplies, waste disposal, proliferation of cats and dogs on campus, hiring processes, wellness program, employees’ training needs, and repair and maintenance of laboratories, classrooms, and other facilities, among others.
Monteclaro wished to make the town hall meetings a regular activity, promoting transparency, trust, and a sense of shared purpose among its constituents in achieving the college’s strategic goals.
On October 28, 2024, Dean Monteclaro and CFOS student relations officer Omar Adrianne Alaman met with student leaders from different CFOS student organizations to discuss issues related to the welfare of the students.
