Peter Solis Nery, an Ilonggo consummate artist, top West Visayan literature producer, and University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) alumnus, will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award in Championing Hiligaynon Literature and Regional Culture from the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) on Aug. 19, 2023.

Sectoral consultations for the next Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) were held in the Iloilo City and Miagao campuses on Aug. 14 and 15, 2023, respectively.

Two members of the UP Visayas faculty were recently named Padayon Fellows of the 4th Public Service Writing Fellowship (PSWF) of the UP Padayon Public Service Office (UPPPSO). The two faculty members are Asst. Prof. Jeena A. Amoto from the Division of Professional Education and Asst. Prof. Rommel J. Gestuveo from the Division of Biological Sciences. 

The UPV Sentro ng Wikang Filipino launched the SWF Library named "Tarangban" at the UP Visayas Iloilo City campus on August 15, 2022.

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), through the Committee on General Welfare and Administrative Matters, conducted a series of staff development training to its non-teaching personnel. 

UP Visayas MS Biology graduate (2023), Julia Theresa Aujero-Regalado, currently a research associate of the the UPV Philippine Genome Center Visayas, is the 2nd place winner for Best Oral Health Research Competition  (Professional Category) in the 2023 Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week held on August 9, 2023 at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, Leyte.

Retired faculty member Prof. Roman Sanares opened his one-man painting exhibit last 14 August 2023 as part of the Goldies Day celebration. Sanares featured a collection of 30 paintings, which he created in a span of three years, including the pandemic season. 

The UP Visayas Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) Director, Prof. Martin Genodepa, and Research Associate Ms. Josie Jane Tambirao participated in the 2023 Intangible Cultural Heritage International Conference and Field School on 1-7 August 2023. 

The UPHSI Team of UP High School in Iloilo composed of Abbie Jessica C. Leigh, Antoine Kaiser T. Demontano, Arwen Jayne B. Deriada, Aisha Yaelle F. Homeres, and Caiden L. Ramirez and their adviser Asst. Prof. Raphael V. Belleza secured a spot in the 2023 Young Innovators Award organized by the Department of Sciences and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology (DOST-PCIEERD).
