UPV research associate and MS Biology grad wins 2nd place in research competition

UP Visayas MS Biology graduate (2023), Julia Theresa Aujero-Regalado, currently a research associate of the the UPV Philippine Genome Center Visayas, is the 2nd place winner for Best Oral Health Research Competition  (Professional Category) in the 2023 Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week held on August 9, 2023 at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, Leyte.

Her winning research work was based on her MS thesis titled "Whole genome sequencing and analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genome in samples collected from the Lung Center of the Philippines" under the advisorship of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Philip Ian Padilla. This bioinformatics work was in partnership with Philippine Genome Center and the Lung Center of the Philippines. It documented the different mutations in SARS-CoV2 variants during the height of the pandemic as part of national biosurveillance.

Ms. Regalado graduated from Philippine Science High School, Western Visayas, Ateneo de Manila University (BS Biology), and UP Visayas (MS Biology).
