The low-salt and all-natural tuna jerky developed by the Institute of Fish Processing Technology, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS-IFPT), UP Visayas, is one of the recipients of the Php12 million research grants from the U.S. government.

Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, together with other academicians, recently published research on the effects of COVID-19 on small-scale fisheries in Southeast Asia. The research magnifies the various situations, issues, and challenges confronting small-scale fisheries in Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The research also highlights supports received from the government, coping strategies among fisherfolks, as well as policy recommendations.

UP Visayas officials met online with representatives from the Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines. On April 27, 2021, Chancellor Clement Camposano, together with Vice Chancellor Philip Ian Padilla and Vice Chancellor Harold Monteclaro, met with Her Excellency Dr. Titanilla Tóth, the Hungarian Ambassador to the Philippines. The online meeting provided a venue for both parties to make introductions, particularly on matters related to fisheries instruction and research.

Six medical technologists and the chief of hospital of Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) completed the Training on Molecular Techniques (RNA Extraction and rRT-PCR) for COVID-19 Testing last April 29-30, 2021, at the Philippine Genome Center Visayas in the Regional Research Center, University of the Philippines Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo.
