The UPV Community Pantry was opened last April 30, 2021. It was organized by UP Fight (composed of UP Alumni Association Iloilo Chapter and iAmUPHi) in collaboration with the UPV administration headed by Chancellor Clement C. Camposano, the Office of Alumni Relations led by Director Rey Carlo T. Gonzales, and with the support of various UPV alumni and other constituents, individuals, and group donors.
Around 250 individuals from the surrounding barangays of UPV Iloilo City campus were given basic commodities including rice, condiments, vegetables, coffee, canned goods, noodles, bread, slippers, hygiene items, and more.
Officers from the Iloilo City Police Office and Land Transportation Region 6 headed by Police Captain Shella Mae A. Sangrines and Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan, II, respectively, were present in a coordinated effort with the UPV Security Service Force and university officials to manage the traffic and the crowd to maintain standard health protocols.
Additional sessions are to be scheduled both in the Iloilo City campus and the Miagao campus.
