The College of Arts and Sciences recently launched its 2021 CAS Dean’s Awards for Outstanding Performance and Achievement. The 2021 UPV-CAS Dean’s Awards is the first-ever award system instituted in the College of Arts and Sciences by Dean Alice Joan G. Ferrer. The CAS Awards recognizes the outstanding performances of its faculty and staff in teaching, research, creative work, public service, and administrative functions.
According to Dean Ferrer, “CAS is a powerhouse of achievers and excellent performers. They (faculty and staff) deserve to be given recognition by the college.” Dean Ferrer also mentioned, “there is no best recognition than recognition from home college.” She also added that more than meeting the work targets, it also feels good when one’s hard work is recognized.
In a memorandum issued by Dean Ferrer, the Dean’s Awards can be given to the CAS faculty and staff in various categories and levels. The award categories and levels are as follows: CAS Award for Outstanding Faculty (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor), CAS Award for Outstanding Performance (Administrative Personnel), CAS Award for Outstanding Performance (REPS – Research, Extension, Professional Staff), and CAS Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research, Creative Works, and Public Service.
Utilizing the existing guidelines for the UPV Chancellor’s Awards, the CAS Ad Hoc Committee came up with the following honorees, of which they all received a certificate and a UP Oblation statuette during the CAS Day celebration on March 25, 2021:
• Dr. Wilfredo L. Campos, Professor 12 – Outstanding Faculty (Professor)
• Prof. Kevin Peter Amado P. Piamonte, Associate Professor 5 – Outstanding Achievement (Creative Works)
• Ms. Maritess C. Ferraris, Student Records Evaluator 1 – Outstanding Performance (Administrative Personnel)
• Ms. Maria Regina Madrid – Montevirgen, Administrative Assistant 2 - Outstanding Performance (Administrative Personnel)
• Ms. Suzanne T. Terre, Administrative Aide 6 - Outstanding Performance (Administrative Personnel)
Dean Ferrer believes that the CAS Dean’s Awards is a way to “make the awardees and their achievements more visible so they can encourage and inspire others in the College to do better.” She also hopes that more faculty and staff will take an interest and apply for the Dean’s Awards next year. Further, she also highlighted that “when we lift each other up in our home College, just imagine what CAS can do and achieve.”
