UP Visayas officials met online with representatives from the Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines. On April 27, 2021, Chancellor Clement Camposano, together with Vice Chancellor Philip Ian Padilla and Vice Chancellor Harold Monteclaro, met with Her Excellency Dr. Titanilla Tóth, the Hungarian Ambassador to the Philippines. The online meeting provided a venue for both parties to make introductions, particularly on matters related to fisheries instruction and research.
On April 28, 2021, another online meeting for possible research collaboration was held between representatives from the Department of Science and Technology, the Philippine Space Agency, UP Visayas, representatives from the Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines, as well as Hungarian agencies in the field of aquaculture and space science.
DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña thought that the dialogue was an excellent opportunity to present the current programs of both countries, particularly in the fields of Aquaculture. UPV was represented by Vice Chancellor Harold Monteclaro, CFOS Dean Encarnacion Emilia Yap, and the Director of the Institute of Aquaculture, Dr. Rex Ferdinand Traifalgar.
Ambassador Tóth expressed interest and enthusiasm that both countries could potentially collaborate on possible research endeavors.
The exchange of ideas further led to possible undertakings in the fields of aquaculture genetics and breeding, sustainable aquaculture, upstream applications of space technologies, spectrum monitoring, and tropical aquaculture/fisheries.
In addition, scholarship programs were also discussed.
A Memorandum of Agreement between UP Visayas and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences has since been prepared for signing. (With reports from OVCRE)
