Benreo Rex N. Rembulat, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics student of the College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV-CAS), is the valedictorian of the UPV class of 2023, after earning a 1.10975 general weighted average (GWA).

Most people think of orchids as showy flowers growing on trees, but there are also many species of ground-dwelling orchids. Ground orchids tend to be small, ephemeral, and easily overlooked — unlike the epiphytic orchids so beloved by gardeners. Nonetheless, terrestrial orchids are also beautiful and fascinating.

In the expansive field of education, few luminaries shine as brilliantly as Dr. Dina Ocampo. Tomorrow, July 20, 2022, this beacon of learning will grace the 44th Commencement Exercises of the University of the Philippines Visayas as its distinguished guest speaker. Scheduled at the UPV Covered Court, Miagao Campus, the ceremony promises a memorable oration by a woman whose life work has centered around pioneering educational standards in the Philippines.

"Recovery and rehabilitation efforts must also follow the same principles of culture-sensitivity and gender-fairness. The aim of recovery is “restoring or improving of livelihoods and health, as well as economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets, systems and activities, of a disaster-affected community or society, aligning with the principles of sustainable development and 'build forward better,' to avoid or reduce future disaster risk."

The University of the Philippines Visayas National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPV-NIMBB) is now led by a new director after the appointment of Dr. Carmelo del Castillo, effective June 15, 2022. 

Trails provide educational opportunities for people of all ages. They give firsthand experiences that let users learn about the importance of the natural environment and participation in preservation activities through unique or common flora or fauna that thrive in the area. Trails let users explore their local environments such as rivers, forests, or vegetation, and discover their history, changing uses, and cultural artifacts. 

Behind a screeching glass door is a cozy space for learners who somehow found their way to what can be called “tambayan”- the basement of the College Union Building where the student lounge of the Teaching and Learning Resource Center is housed.

Inspiration can come in different forms, and that’s the beauty of being an artist – they are not boxed by rules when they execute their work to bring life to an idea; they have the license to display their creativity and panache.
