Inspiration can come in different forms, and that’s the beauty of being an artist – they are not boxed by rules when they execute their work to bring life to an idea; they have the license to display their creativity and panache.

UPV’s Bamboo Initiatives
Fast-growing, renewable, and versatile are just some of the adjectives used to describe bamboo. It can be turned into furniture, used to create structures, or serve as ornaments. While it’s gaining traction as an alternative to wood, it still has some ways to go before it hits its full potential, which is why the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is promoting bamboo and the industry through its initiatives.

Chancellor Clement C. Camposano shared his views on remote learning in the June – July 2021 issue of The ASEAN. Entitled “The Shape of Things to Come,” Chancellor Camposano expounded on how the COVID-19 pandemic magnified, in one way or the other, the role of technology in higher education.

ERK productions and Taytay Productions, in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Visayas’ much awaited film project “Sa Pagpula sang Lawod” written and directed by Kenneth Dela Cruz with Creative Direction by Kevin Pison Piamonte renders the plight of the fisherfolk amidst internal and external maelstroms. The film slowly builds its narrative by incorporating poetic interludes, montages of the sea, and deep silences that highlight its melancholic imagery. In the middle of this black and white world stands a family of three: Mila, Lito, and Mayla, whose interconnected struggles reveal the undying discourse of “the personal is always political.”The film unfurls from three different points of view as the characters navigate their lives and ponder on their struggles, while trapped in the crossroads of poverty and the looming threat of Chinese-Filipino maritime conflict.
