The Museum of Philippine Maritime History in Iloilo City served as the venue for a thought-provoking event that shed light on the mental health challenges faced by seafarers in the midst of the ongoing global pandemic. Organized by Dr. Sanley S. Abila from the University of the Philippines Visayas, Division of Professional Education, this public engagement aimed to raise awareness and promote discussions on the well-being of seafarers.
The Office of the Vice President for Development (OVPD), headed by Engr. Ferdinand Jesus A. Pecson, organized the UP System Infrastructure Planning Workshop with the theme "On-Time, On Budget, and of Quality Infrastructure Projects" from June 14 to June 16, 2023, at the UP Open University, Los Baños.
Western Visayas-based media participated in a three-day seminar-workshop to adapt to the new shift in their industry, with more focus on online content, organized by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation, and in collaboration with the University of the Philippines (UPV) Bantala Media Excellence Awards and Iloilo Media-Citizen Council.
Nine administrative staff involved in handling records in their respective offices at UP Visayas attended the training and seminar titled, “Valuing Public Records thru the Establishment of Effective Records Disposition Program” last June 7-9, 2023 held at the La Carmela de Boracay Resort and Hotel, Boracay, Malay, Aklan.
The Balay Balay Child Minding Center (BBCMC) of the University of the Philippines Visayas held its culminating activity or “Pagpadungog” on June 14, 2023 at the Little Theater, UPV Iloilo City campus. Fifty two young learners of BBCMC Iloilo City and Miagao were recognized for completing the Growing Up Rhythm during their stay at the Balay Balay.
Prof. Dr. Rex Ferdinand M. Traifalgar of the Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS-IA), UP Visayas delivered a Plenary Lecture on science-based technological solutions to lessen the impacts of climate change on food security through aquaculture in the 2nd International Conference for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CCA-DRRM).
The Aquatic Science 1 (People and the Aquatic World) and F175 (Community-Based Coastal Resource Management) classes of UPV College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, in partnership with the UP Visayas Ugnayan ng Pahinungód/Oblation Corps (UP/OC), presented their class projects to selected schools and coastal barangays of Miagao, Iloilo on May 24-June 17, 2023.
