UPV-CWVS hosts lecture of visiting scholar from Edinburgh

The Center from West Visayan Studies hosted the lecture of Dr. Resto Cruz, a visiting scholar on Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, at the CWVS, Museum of Arts Culture and Heritage, UP Visayas, Iloilo City campus on June 15, 2023.

The lecture titled “Who Will Cook for Joseph? Care and the Lives of Inheritance in Later Life” discussed the religious tradition of San Jose, which is widely practiced in Central Philippines. He also elaborated on the subject of inheritance, family, community obligations, and gender relations in postwar Philippines. 

Dr. Cruz earned a PhD in Social Anthropology in 2017 from the University of Edinburgh. He finished his MA in Global Politics from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2008. 

The Visiting Scholars Lecture Series is a project of CWVS headed by Prof. Frances Anthea Redison. It aims to bring together researchers, cultural workers, academics, and students, and give them a venue for discourse and raise new questions in their respective disciplines. 

Attending the lecture were faculty members, researchers, staff, and students from UP Visayas who related shared experiences and disclosed and learned new insights from the discussions. (With sources from CWVS)
