University of the Philippines Visayas joins Academic Film Society, strengthening commitment to film education

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is thrilled to announce its acceptance as a member of the esteemed Academic Film Society (AFS), following a successful application. This membership signifies the University's dedication to providing its students in the Communication and Media Studies program under the Division of Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences, with enhanced opportunities to excel in the field of filmmaking and contribute to the thriving film industry in the Philippines.

In a letter addressed to Chair Tirso Cruz III of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, UPV expressed its enthusiasm for joining the AFS as a representative of its film-focused students. Recognizing the significance of providing students with access to comprehensive training programs, financial assistance, and other forms of support, the university views the AFS as an invaluable platform for student growth.

Under the AFS membership, UPV will gain access to a wide range of invaluable resources and support, in accordance with individual guidelines and policies. These include:

  • Access to FDCP Film School Workshops
  • Access to the Student Film Assistance Program (SFAP)
  • Access to References, Artifacts, and Films Available under FDCP Media Library
  • Mentors/Resource Persons for Film Education Component
  • Training for Teachers of Film and Media Arts
  • Use of Film Exhibition Platforms
  • FDCP Ratings and Permits
  • School Event Promotions

To facilitate this partnership, the FDCP-Development Support Division will provide UPV with the necessary Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), outlining the terms and conditions of the membership.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is the national film agency under the Office of the President of the Philippines. It is responsible for the promotion, development, and preservation of the local film industry. The FDCP supports filmmakers through various programs and initiatives, fostering a vibrant and sustainable film ecosystem in the Philippines.
