Emphasizing the role of the youth during the global health crisis, UPV Skimmers, in collaboration with the CMS 110 (Development Media) class, hosted an online event entitled, ‘Youth on a Mission’, a two-part webinar series on fighting disinformation in the new normal and forwarding youth initiatives during the pandemic.

Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), is one of the judges to evaluate the nominees to the 2021 Outstanding Young Fisheries Scientist Award of the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN), a university-based consortium of fisheries and aquaculture oriented institutions in the Southeast Asian region.

Featuring two Master of Education in English as a Second Language (MEd ESL) alumni, the University of the Philippines Visayas Language Program (UPV LP), in partnership with the Division of Professional Education, hosted its first installment of virtual panel discussion for English language education (ELE) practitioners, May 29, 2021.

Ugnayan ng Pahinungod held a ceremonial deployment of two (2) Gurong Pahinungod (GP) 4.0 volunteers to the Department of Education-Division of Antique on June 14, 2021. They are Ms. Claizza Regalado, a graduate of BS Food Technology at UP Los Baños, and Ms. Celine Ningas, a graduate of BA Psychology at UP Visayas, who are licensed, professional teachers. Ms. Regalado wanted to be a Gurong Pahinungod to give back to the nation and to help the education sector in her own way. Ms. Ningas is a long-time Gurong Pahinungod volunteer from 1999-2005 assigned in Tawi-Tawi, Barbaza, Antique, and Sapi-an, Capiz. To Ms. Ningas, voluntarism has always been in her heart. They will be working with DepEd Antique Supervisors on a blended approach.

To impart the basics of aquaculture, the Brackishwater Aquaculture Center (BAC) of the Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS-IA), UP Visayas, conducted a free webinar for senior high school (SHS) teachers of Nabitasan National High School (NNHS), Leganes, Iloilo on May 26, 2021.

The UPV Academic Assessment and Development Committee (AADC) conducted a series of orientations on quality assurance and program assessment for faculty members. These were held via Zoom on May 7 for UPV Tacloban College; May 12 for the Division of Professional Education and UP High School Iloilo; May 21 for the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; May 27 for the College of Arts and Sciences; and May 28 for the School of Technology and College of Management.
