Five fourth year B.S. Economics students that consist UPV’s team UPGRADE, were selected to be among the top three teams of the recent Circular Connect competition. The members of team UPGRADE are Franvill Villanueva (team leader), Jovy Fluer Elpos, Michael Benjamin Ramirez, Trisha Ann Castillo and Renz Calizo. The faculty mentor is Dr. Rodelio F. Subade of DSS-CAS.
With their selection, the team shall be provided free travel and accommodations for them to present their circular solution during GIZ’s (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) National Stakeholder Forum from November 15-16, 2023 in Quezon City.
Organized by Circular Cities Asia and the 3RproMar (Reduce, reuse, recycle to protect marine environments and coral reefs) project of GIZ, the competition confronts student participants the challenge to tackle marine litter by designing circular economy solutions that combat plastic pollution, develop innovative business ideas to reduce single-use plastics, promote sustainable practices, and revolutionize waste management, all while preserving our precious marine ecosystems.
