UPV MACH welcomes new artwork from Ilonggo artist, Lester Amacio

Another artwork has been added to the university art collection under the stewardship of the University of the Philippines Visayas Museum of Art and Culture (UPV MACH).

The museum was presented with an acrylic painting titled "Absence of the Sun" by the Ilonggo visual artist Lester Amacio. The 3x4 feet acrylic painting was done in 2022.

Amacio’s painting was received by Prof. Martin Genodepa of the UPV Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) on behalf of the museum, which was followed by the signing of the deed of donation.

Lester Amacio is an artist and curator from Lapaz, Iloilo. He studied Painting at the University of San Agustin. He has worked as a gallery assistant at the Etemad Gallery and Leila Heller Gallery in Dubai, UAE.

He has participated extensively in group exhibitions in the Philippines, Singapore, Italy, and UAE. Additionally, he has also mounted 10 solo exhibitions since 2009.

Amacio was a semi-finalist in the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) in 2005 and 2006. He also won the Juror’s Choice in the Philippine Art Awards at the Visayas Region level in 2011 making him a finalist at the national level of the same competition in 2012.
