The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) of the UP Visayas College of Management won most of the academic competitions and was declared the Over-All Champion of the Academic League of the 18th Regional Mid-Year Convention (RMYC). The RMYC is an annual gathering of accountancy students in the region organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA) Regional Chapter.
This year’s convention with the theme, “Harimaya: Festival of the Synergy of Wits and Talents,” was held at various locations in Iloilo City last January 27 to 29, 2023, and was participated in by hundreds of delegates from various colleges and universities in Western Visayas.
In the Academic League of the RMYC, teams from the College of Management composed of BS in Accountancy students won the following competitions: Champion, Regulatory Framework for Business Transactions Quiz Bowl; Champion, Taxation Quiz Bowl; Champion, Taxation Case Study; 1st runner-up, Conceptual Framework & Accounting Standards Quiz Bowl; 2nd runner-up, Financial Accounting & Reporting Quiz Bowl; 2nd runner-up, Advanced Accounting & Reporting Quiz Bowl; and 2nd runner-up, Management Advisory Services Quiz Bowl.
One of the highlights of the Convention was the Search for Mr. and Ms. Ambassadors of Goodwill 2023. Mr. John Edward Alejano won the title of Ambassador of Goodwill 2023, while his partner Ms. Kristin Mae Santos, garnered 1st runner-up. Both of them are 3rd year BS in Accountancy students.
Meanwhile, UPV also won in various events of the Non-Academic League, including Champion in Essay Writing, Slam Poetry, Spoken Word, and Badminton Mixed Doubles; 1st runner-up in Short Story, Your Sound Drags Familiar, Volleyball Women’s Division with Best Setter award, and Amazing Race; and 2nd runner-up in Digital Slogan Making and Creative Photography.
