Piña Futures: Weaving Memories and Innovation, a book authored by Dr. Randy M. Madrid of the University of the Philippines Visayas, Division of Professional Education, was featured at the 9th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium in Vientiane, Laos last November 3-6, 2024.
Recognized as a finalist for Best Design in the 42nd National Book Award, Dr. Madrid’s book, which explores the rich history of piña as a cultural and global treasure, was one of two Philippine textile works chosen for the exhibit, alongside Weaving Ways by Dr. Norma Respicio and Gayle Zialcita.
The exhibition was held in conjunction with the 9th Traditional Textile Symposium which celebrated Southeast Asian regional heritage and craftsmanship.
