It’s UP’s 72nd year in Iloilohe celebration of UP’s 72 years of UP Presence in Iloilo kicked off with a motorcade and a festive program that featured the winning Salakayan Festival performers at its Miagao campus on Monday, Feb. 17.
Dr. Maura Consolacion Cristobal, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education VI, represented CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera. She emphasized UP’s role as a national university in mentoring other state colleges and universities as they pursue their role in giving universal access to quality tertiary education.
Gearing up for UP’s diamond year in Iloilo in 2022, a week-long celebration was scheduled at both Miagao and Iloilo City campuses on February 18-22, 2019. “Panggamut: Celebrating 72 years of UPV Rootedness in the Community,” was chosen as this year’s theme to mark UP’s influence in the communities it has reached.
A week-long activity consisting of lectures, fora, exhibits, book-launching, plays, film showing, performances was organized. UP Visayas also honored its outstanding personnel through the Chancellor’s Awards as well as recognized the retirees and those that have served the University for 25 years.
On December 18, 1947, responding to the desire of Ilonggos to have a UP education, the Municipal Board of Iloilo authorized a resolution for the opening of a branch of UP in Iloilo City on the site of what was then the Iloilo City Hall.
