The UPV College of Management (CM) team is the regional first runner-up and national third runner-up of the 24th Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition (ICFC), besting 93 other schools during the finals of the prestigious finance quiz bee.
Team UPV is composed of Kean Miraflor, Keren Kathe Jacomilla, Alyssa Faith Uygen, Alexis Nicole Guillergan, and Airyleen Varquez. All of them are 5th-year BS in Accountancy students at the College of Management, UP Visayas, Iloilo City campus. Mr. Lourence Delfin Jr., CPA, a faculty member of the Department of Accounting, is the coach of the team.
The regional eliminations and national finals were held simultaneously in six venues throughout the Philippines on November 22, 2024. Of 98 participating schools in the regional eliminations, 22 advanced to the national finals. The Western Visayas leg of the competition was held at the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos in Bacolod City and was participated in by eight schools in the region.
Now in its 24th year, the annual ICFC is acclaimed by many business schools and industry practitioners as the country’s toughest and most prestigious collegiate-level finance quiz bowl. It covers questions in corporate finance, investments, portfolio management, banking, financial accounting and reporting, financial statement analysis, economics, quantitative methods in management, and business ethics.
The ICFC is a project of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) – FINEX Research and Development Foundation Inc. through its Junior FINEX Committee (JFINEX) in partnership with JPMorgan Chase & Co., a leading global financial services firm and one of the largest banking institutions in the United States.
The main objective of the ICFC is to expose business students to world-class finance education standards. The questions asked in the competition were patterned after the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 examination.
Fourteen years ago, the team from UPV CM won the national championship of the 12th ICFC, and the College of Management still holds the record as the only school outside Metro Manila to win the national finals. (With sources from FINEX and Mr. Lourence Delfin)
