74th anniversary of UP presence in Iloilo opens in UPV

In preparation for the diamond year celebration of the UPs anniversary in Iloilo, today’s event opened, with a simple Zoom ceremony streamed live through the UP Visayas official FB page. This year's theme is "Leading the way Amidst Challenges."

Dr. Harold Monteclaro, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and this year's Overall Chair of the activity, welcomed everyone to the weeklong celebration. He acknowledged that despite the many challenges in 2020, the university has thrived and continued its purpose. "UPV has managed to transform the challenges into opportunities, especially in how the university administered teaching and learning and spotlighting its role in the local, regional and national levels."

Chancellor Clement Camposano underscored UPV's inheritance that propelled its growth over the years and helped shape its future. "The paths we chose, the struggles we undertake, and the sacrifices we make will inevitably shape what is to come to the university… It is in the present that the past and the present converge. Those who came before us have left us a great inheritance. An institution that, for all its shortcomings, continues to lead in teaching research and public service. With this inheritance, we have the means to scale even greater heights and build a future today. Our task is to grow this inheritance, to offer new and cutting- edge academic programs, to open new areas for research, and to find more innovative ways of serving the people."

President Danilo Concepcion paid tribute to UPVs accomplishment during the pandemic. "I am immensely proud of what UP has achieved during these trying times, its determination to continue and complete essential projects, its swift and untiring response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and its unceasing pursuits of initiatives that strengthen the university's capacity to meet future challenges."

During the program, UPV honored those who have served the university for 25 years, the retirees, and the posthumous awardees. Nine personnel were also given the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service, including those in research, public service, and creative work.
