Research, Extension, and Professional Services (REPS) personnel of the University of the Philippines Visayas took their oath as newly-elected officers of the REPS Association (REPSA) in the presence of UP Visayas Chancellor, Dr. Clement C. Camposano on the 25th of October 2022.

The UPV Language Program held the first run of “READ UP: A language and literacy teaching training” for daycare teachers on October 24-25, 2022, at the MDRRMC conference room, Maasin Iloilo. The two-day workshop utilized read-aloud strategies to enhance the daycare teachers’ creativity, pedagogical approach, and language skills. The training was facilitated by read-aloud expert, Prof. Anna Liza Barcelona, who was joined by 50 registered attendees from the 50 barangays of the municipality.

The University of the Philippines Visayas – National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPV-NIMBB) in partnership with the Institute of Aquaculture (IA) and the Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT) - of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), together with the DOST-PCAARRD funded project, Improvement of Milkfish Larval Rearing and Nursery Culture through Gut Metagenome, Transcriptome Analysis and Gut Microbial Community Manipulations, hosted a three-day blended lecture and hands-on training workshop last October 10-12, 2022 at the NIMBB and CFOS Laboratories of UPV.

The Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS), the Indigenous People’s Resource Center (IPRC), and the Visayan Studies 101 class held a webinar entitled “Dunang Kinaaram: A Webinar on Indigenous Knowledge, Cultural Identity, and Resource Conservation” last October 19, 2022, from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning. The webinar was done via zoom and was streamed live on the UP Visayas official Facebook page. The event was initiated in line with the university’s celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month.

The culmination of the week-long screenings and film talks for CineMapadayon proved to be a resounding success for the regional filmmakers of Western Visayas. Much of the success is attributed to the concerted efforts of the University of the Philippines Visayas as host organizer and the full support of the Iloilo City Government in realizing the objectives of CineMapadayon – a UPV film festival of Western Visayas Films.
