The UPV Language Program held the first run of “READ UP: A language and literacy teaching training” for daycare teachers on October 24-25, 2022, at the MDRRMC conference room, Maasin Iloilo. The two-day workshop utilized read-aloud strategies to enhance the daycare teachers’ creativity, pedagogical approach, and language skills. The training was facilitated by read-aloud expert, Prof. Anna Liza Barcelona, who was joined by 50 registered attendees from the 50 barangays of the municipality.
Professor Barcelona divided the workshop into three parts: a lecture, a read-aloud session, and a critiquing session, in which participants from different barangays of Maasin shared their teaching techniques, creative approaches, and even the different challenges of teaching. This project was made possible through the collective efforts of the UPV Language Program, Professor Anna Liza Barcelona, Ms. Elsa Palacios, Mayor Francis Amboy, and the Maasin LGU.
”READ UP: A language and literacy teaching training” is part of a series of workshops planned by the UPV Language Program to develop trainings in response to the needs of the community.
As part of its mandate to be a vital influence in language teaching, extension and research in the region, the UPV Language Program commits itself to impart expertise on language usage and literacy to both internal and external public, and promote the potency of language, especially English and Hiligaynon, to disseminate knowledge and culture.
