UPV University Library takes part in LIS and Reading Month celebration in Passi City

The UPV University Library joined the Division Partnership Engagement and Culminating Activity for the 33rd Library and Information Services Month and 2023 National Book and Reading Month at CityMall Passi Activity Area, Passi City, at the end of 2023. Ms. Analiza Galang-Linaugo, UPV University Librarian, together with Ms. Elsa Surmieda, the College Librarian of CFOS Library, and two other library staff attended the event.

The Schools Division of Passi City, in partnership with the MS Community Library and Learning Center, invited Linaugo and her team to be among the guests during the culminating program. Linaugo was also invited as one of the judges in the event, participated in by student and teacher representatives.

A morning caravan around the main streets of Passi City kicked off the event, followed by an English Read-a-thon and Math CHAMP Quiz in the mall activity area. In the afternoon, participants unveiled their prowess during Basa Pasundayag, a storytelling competition for teachers and students. The selected high school students modeled and acted in character for the cosplay contest. The activity capped off with the announcement of winners.

Mr. John Mark Q. Apellado, Division Partnership Focal Person of Passi, mentioned in his opening remarks that the event aimed to empower the partnership between private and public schools to foster the immense role of reading in the development of students, anchored on the 2023 theme of National Reading Month, “Pagbasa: Pag-asa para sa Matatag na Kinabukasan.”

Apellado and the SDO of Passi City envisioned signing a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with UPV University Library to seal the continued partnership.

Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Winston and Mercedita Gorriceta, the parents of Ms. Jhoanna Goricceta-Rojo, an alumna of UP Diliman who is currently US-based. Ms. Jhoanna has been donating books to the University Library since 2018 up to the present, together with her husband, Mr. Zyrel Rojo. The Gorriceta-Rojo family founded the MS Community Library and Learning Center in Passi City, where the UPV University Library team, spearheaded by Linaugo, has been extending their community service. They have been helping the community library with book cataloging and other technical works.
