UPV faculty members, Prof. Philip Ian Padilla, Assistant Professors Josephine Firmase, Melanie Retiracion-Sartorio, and Alex Porras trained two batches of young leaders from Guimbal on Youth Leadership and Governance. The 1-day training with two batches was facilitated by the UPV Health Leadership Team at Garin Farm on 16-17 Aug 2024.
A total of 130 youth leaders with ages ranging from 15-30 years old were chosen by the Guimbal LGU under the leadership of UPV alumni and Mayor Jennifer Garin-Colada to undergo leadership training. The training aims to help the participants to be organized and become active partners for development of Guimbal. The youth members were chosen upon recommendation of their peers and community leaders from all the barangays in the municipality.
The one-day module is composed of leadership competencies including, but not limited to, addressing equity issues, team development, conflict management, and leadership coaching and mentoring. The youth leaders spent one day and one night in Garin Farm undergoing workshops, socials, and team building under the guidance of the UPV faculty and the Young Friends civic organization of Guimbal.
The Guimbal LGU has been a consistent development partner of UPV for the past 10 years with former Mayor, now Vice Governor and UPV alumna, Christine Garin, joining the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) cycle 1. Other partners include former Vice Mayor and now SB member Christy Love Custodio Margarico, under the Angat Buhay program and currently, Mayor Colada, as part of MLGP cycle 4.
