The UP Visayas (UPV) Sibika Hub organized a Leadership Training and Public Service activity at the Jaro National High School Gymnasium last May 6, 2023, wherein student leaders coming from U. P. High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) and six DepEd Schools actively participated.
The participating schools include Jaro National High School (JNHS), Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS), La Paz National High School (LPNHS), Mandurriao National High School (MNHS), Jalandoni National High School (JNHS), and Ramon Avanceña National High School (RANHS).
The purpose of the initiative is for the aforementioned participants to have an on-ground discourse that will further enhance their leadership skills, camaraderie, and socialization through various activities prepared by the organizers. Prof. Imelda C. Catequista, the Co-chair of the Civic Education Committee and the resource speaker of the event, also highlighted traditional Filipino Games as a medium to explore the participants' leadership capabilities in her talk.
One of the activities conducted was the team building with the theme, “Laro ng Lider: Building Strong Teams Through Traditional Filipino Games,” that were facilitated by several Grade 11-HUMSS students of UPHSI. Sekyu and Patintero were featured and played as a way to promote cultural diversity and enhance the entrants critical thinking and decision-making skills and their prowess as student leaders.
The presence of Prof. Edelia T. Braga and Dr. Belinda V. Dinopol, Principals of UPHSI and JNHS, respectively, contributed to the success of the activity by gracing the event with their presence and inspirational messages. Mr. Candido M. Golez lll, Project Development Officer and Youth Formation from the Division of Iloilo City, also joined the activity. Sibika Hub also worked closely with its sponsors to make the event possible.
