The University of the Philippines Visayas - Research, Extension, and Professional Staff Association (UPV REPSA), in collaboration with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, recently held a seminar-workshop on personnel development and succession plan for REPS.
The activity titled “Pagpanakayon: A Seminar-Workshop on REPS Development and Succession Plan for Sustainable Growth” was held on April 4, 2025, at the CFOS AV Hall, UPV Miagao campus.
The first half of the program was filled with talks from UPV faculty-administrators who have years of experience in research, administration, and public service.
The topics included research, public service, and innovation thrusts; establishing a professional development plan; and determinants of a sustainable career.
The resource persons were Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Encarnacion Emilia Yap, Philippine Genome Center Visayas Director Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols, and Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Farisal Bagsit.
Their talks were followed by an open forum to discuss related concerns. Likewise, the REPS were grouped into clusters — Research, Extension, Guidance Services, Librarian, and REPS Managers — to further discuss their specific concerns.
Dr. Mary Jane Amar, the immediate past President of REPSA, also discussed the REPS Development Plan.
Chancellor Clement Camposano, in his video message, said recognizing and investing in the professional development of REPS is essential to foster continuous growth and ensure that they are equipped to meet the growing demands of their roles and core functions in the University.
According to VCRE Yap, the activity aims to produce outputs that will serve as a basis for the promotion and empowerment of UPV REPS.
Meanwhile, Ms. Rose Mueda, REPSA President, said that such activity will aid them with their competencies and skills when career opportunities are made available.
The seminar-workshop on REPS development and succession plan is the first of its kind for the sector.
