A collaborative research paper entitled, “Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic to the Livelihood and Well-being of Artisanal Fishing Communities in the province of Aklan, Western Visayas, Philippines,” won 2nd place in the National Academy of Science and Technology Digital Poster Session of the Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting. The awarding ceremony was held online on April 14, 2021.
Prof. Ronald J. Maliao presented the paper, which he co-authored with Beverly Jaspe, Elize Margareth C. Sibulan, Leah Katrine A. Bayog, Dean P. Regalado of the Aklan Research Center for Coastal Studies (ARCCS), and Prof. Pepito R. Fernandez, Jr. and Dr. Rodelio F. Subade, faculty members of the Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas.
Maliao is Head of the ARCCS based in Aklan State University in New Washington, wherein he is an Associate Professor in Marine Biology. The Commission on Human Rights funded the research paper.
