Two faculty members of UP Visayas from the Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, recently had book publications.

Dr. Rosalie Arcala-Hall published a book entitled, Pathways for Irregular Forces in Southeast Asia: Mitigating Violence with Non-State Armed Groups, which she co-authored with Atsushi Yasutomi and Saya Kiba.

According to its abstract, the book is an exploration of the roles that pro and anti-government militias, private armed groups, vigilantes and gangs play in the local communities in the new democracies. It is a valuable resource for researchers, students and practitioners in the areas of conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and security governance, especially those with a focus on Southeast Asia. It will also be of great interest to scholars of the sociology and anthropology of the region.

Meanwhile Prof. Moniq Muyargas published a chapter Routledge International Handbook of Community Psychology. Dr. Eric Julian Manalastas of the University of Sheffield is the lead author, with Muyargas, Prof. Pierce Docena of the UP Visayas Tacloban College and Prof. Beatriz Torre of UP Diliman.

The handbook offers a unique, critical and cross-disciplinary approach to the study of Community Psychology, showing how it can address the systemic challenges arising from multiple crises facing people across the world. (With sources from Dr. Johnrev Guilaran and aylorfrancis.com)
