UP Visayas is partnering with the Miagao LGU under the leaderhsip of Mayor Richard Garin and the office of Congresswoman Janette Loreto-Garin to construct a P70 million road project thru the General Appropriations Act of 2023. The infrastructure project known as the “Constructions of UP Visayas Road Leading to Academic Institutions, Miagao, Iloilo” is one of the priority initiatives of Cong. Loreto-Garin and will commence during the term of Chancellor Clement C. Camposano.
The Php 70 million-worth project will change the landscape of the area with these sub-projects:
1. The construction of the new road leading to the academic loop approximately 837 linear meters with the concrete road surface;
2. Road reblocking and repair from Box 2 to covered court - asphalt road will be changed to concrete and will have bike lanes on both sides of the road;
3. Road widening from the start of new road construction to the intersection of the proposed baseball field, enterprise community hub, and cultural center; and
4. The construction of box culverts.
The new road network (academic loop) in Acad-Zone 1 is necessary for future developments, which include the new College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Management buildings. The road network is needed to ensure the connectivity and accessibility of facilities within the area as well as with other existing facilities of the University. Mobility of faculty, staff, and students within the campus will also be easy once the road network is completed.
Civil works will start this April to be carried out by J.E. Tico Construction Co. Inc. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The University of the Philippines Visayas has several new infrastructure projects which are about to start implementation in Miagao and Iloilo City campuses. These projects are included in the list of Investment Programs of the BOR-approved Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP) for Miagao and Iloilo City campuses.
