The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Participatory Food Safety Project Team launched its first session of the Food Safety Training among 50 ambulant vendors of Iloilo City, today, August 19, 2024 at the Penthouse, Iloilo City Hall. The workshop aims to increase and improve the food safety knowledge, attitudes, and practices among food service MSMEs in Iloilo City.
Several topics were discussed by the project team, namely: 1) Facilities and Structure (Dr. Jade Pahila), 2) Proper Hygiene (Jose Marie Eslopor), 3) Clean and Sanitation (Mr. Janreich Miramon), and 4) Process Control (Dr. Johannes Magpusao). The team was also joined by Dr. Jihan Santanina Alumbro and Mr. John Ray Molavin.
Other project team members include Asst. Prof. Lhumen Tejano, Ms. Emiliza Lozada, and Asst. Prof. Eliodora Dimzon. The Food Safety Project Team is composed of faculty, researchers, and extensionists from UP Visayas School of Technology, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Regional Research Center.
This Food Safety Project is supported by the In-House Research and Extension funding of UP Visayas and in collaboration with Iloilo City Local Government Unit, Municipality of Oton, and the Municipality of Dumangas. More training workshops will also be conducted among among ambulant vendors, eatery, and seafood eatery SMEs in the Municipalities of Oton and Dumangas.
