UPV OICA features four new exhibits

Four new exhibitions are now open for viewing in the UPV Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage (MACH), offering another diverse experience to visitors.

Kinamot: Writing Culture in Lantip Changing Exhibition Gallery 1 addresses the declining art of handwriting. The show features numerous handwritten materials such as artwork, personal letters, prayer books, postcards, and school notebooks. Also on display are esoteric manuscripts written in Persian, Uchen (Tibetan), and Ge’ez (ancient Ethiopian), all gifts of Eloisa and Reginald Zell to the museum.

Hanas Changing Exhibition Gallery 2 features the various drawings of Jose Joya, inspired by the places he visited and the people he met while travelling throughout the country. Also included in the exhibit, titled Hiyas, are photographs of the late National Artist’s sojourns in Iloilo City that attest to his affinity to local artists and the indelible legacy that he has left in the Iloilo art community.

The Nelfa A. Querubin Gallery features the artist’s functional pieces alongside her sculptural ceramics. The show titled Pulos Function and Form includes pieces loaned by the Central Philippine University (CPU) collection.

The Ed Defensor Gallery traces the creative evolution of the artist. In Latid, rarely-seen works by Defensor loaned from various private collections are presented.

The four new exhibitions are all curated by UPV OICA Director, Martin Genodepa.

UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano and CPU President Ernest Dagohoy graced the reception on 29 August 2024 for the four new exhibitions.
