University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Prince of Songkla University-Phuket Campus (PSU), a public university in Thailand, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic and cultural ties in a virtual signing ceremony last September 22, 2023.
Established in 1967, PSU is the first university in southern Thailand. It is one of the leading public universities with more than 33, 000 students throughout its five campuses in Phuket, Hat Yai, Pattani, Surat Thani, and Trang. PSU is proud of its achievements in teaching, research, development, and community involvement.
The agreement seeks to strengthen the partnership and foster mutual exchanges between the two universities.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pun Tongchumnum, PSU Vice President for Phuket Campus, and Dr. Clement C. Camposano, UPV Chancellor, signed the MoU on behalf of PSU and UPV, respectively.
The parties agreed on the promotion of exchange of faculty members, researchers, and students.
Witnesses to the agreement were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Werapong Koedsin and Dr. Sornsiri Phongphattawarat of the Faculty of Technology and Environment, PSU, as well as Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap and Asst. Prof. Dr. Cristy S. Acabado of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas.
The collaboration is made possible through the efforts of Asst. Prof. Dr. Acabado and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sheila Mae S. de Leon of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology, CFOS.
Also present during the signing were UPV Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) Prof. Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla and Asst. to the VCAA for International Linkages Asst. Prof. Dr. Hanny John P. Mediodia.
PSU and UPV are both members of the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN), a group of university-based consortia of fisheries and aquaculture institutions in the Southeast Asia region. (With reports from IMFO)
