In a competition that showcased the talents of the University of the Philippines Visayas’ (UPV) academic and administrative personnel, the Fire Kingdom of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) aptly shined the brightest.
CAS claimed this year’s Pasundayag title, besting four other groups in the TikTok-centric event themed “Ting Ting Tok and All It Took: Clash of the Kingdoms.”
The performers showed CAS’ firepower with their dancing and singing prowess, sprinkled with the theatrical participation of their office and division heads led by Dean Alice Joan Ferrer.
The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS)-led Iron Kingdom finished second, while the Woodland Kingdom — represented by the UPV Iloilo City campus group led by the College of Management (CM) — finished third.
Both the Iron Kingdom and the Woodland Kingdom incorporated masterful storytelling in their performances but were unable to stop the Fire Kingdom from securing its win at this year’s tightly-contested Pasundayag.
The Fire Kingdom received P20,000 for their victory, while the Iron Kingdom and the Woodland Kingdom received P15,000 and P12,000, respectively.
The other competing groups, the Sky Kingdom (Central Administration) and the Underwater Kingdom (School of Technology-led group), each received P10,000.
The creativity of the competing groups this year did not only show during their performances but also in the costumes and props they used on stage.
The five groups utilized viral songs and dance routines from TikTok, a popular mobile app that plays fun and spontaneous short-form videos, in their performances.
Held at the UPV Covered Court, Miagao campus, the Pasundayag 2023 was the culminating activity of the 76th Year of the UP Presence in Iloilo celebration held from Sept. 25-29 in the two UPV campuses.
